So, we will think of it, Consider it, And even make plans to do it; But, what is giving up in similitude to rising up?
Because we’ll see other sides of living, And the people in them, Then, we’ll try to compare, And end up believing in defeat;
Of course, we’ll wail, And rant, Shaking fists at the heavens, Carting the blames for our failures on God, As if we were zombies irrevocably subject to His wills;
But then, after the fight, we’ll fall, Broken, With no other fight left in us, And then, we’ll yield, And do the right kind of giving up, But this time, it will be to the knowing, That He’s got us: God’s got our backs, No matter how deep in the mire we’ve sank ourselves…
Well, with this knowing will come the assurance, That it will be well, In the end:
Yes, if we listen well enough, We’ll hear Him say it to us, Our ears ringing with the truth of it –
Child, It is well, In the end.

Poet’s Note:
Sometimes, in life, when the going gets really tough, it is hard not to feel depressed and angry at both life and God. Life challenges have a way of blinding our eyes to the truth that we can’t survive on our own. We are someone’s belongings – God’s, and only He knows how to make things better for us.
And so, only in the light of yielding our strength to Him and trusting Him completely with everything can the practical realisation of the truth that it will always be well in the end dawn on our souls.
Shalom!
