Keep Being Faithful

Entry 37 (Special Issue)

Anchor Passage:

I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard-post. There I will wait to see what the lord says and how he will answer my complaint.

Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.

This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed…”

– Habakkuk 2:1-3

Author’s Note:

Initially, I did not have the intention of writing this. But, Vivian Uche, a friend and a fellow God’s Grace Geek, motivated me indirectly to express my thoughts. Thank you, Viv. Your timely posts have become some of the little miracles of my living experiences.

Thank you too, Omolola Salami. That chat was just on point. I count my blessings and you are one of them.

By the way, today is the Birthday of a very good friend. A lady I love and respect. Happy Birthday to you, Dorcas Feyikemi Akanji. You live to FULFILL Purpose in Jesus name. This Special Issue is DEDICATED to her.

Around three weeks ago, I was going through the book of Habakkuk, chapter Two and verses One to Three to be precise, when the Holy Spirit inspired me to write a short note/message. It felt little and probably insignificant at that time. And I had thought that I was probably writing the message for a soul that God wanted to speak to. Little did I know that the message was also for me and that one day, it would come to be useful to the uplifting of my weary soul. The message goes:

“…whenever He gives you a promise – it could come as a vision, a hope, an inspiration – it will surely come to pass, no matter how long. This is why we have to learn how to hold on to what God is saying about our lives, rather than what He is presently doing. The truth is, present circumstances may not match up to our expectations of God. We may look at our lives and think “What exactly is God doing?” However, God sees the bigger pictures and He knows the end of all things from the beginning. After all, He’s Alpha and Omega. Once He speaks, His word will not go without being fulfilled. And no matter what happens, His expected end for you will materialise. So, wait. Stand still.”

Recently, since the beginning of this week to be exact, I have been kind of down emotionally. This is due to some disappointments that I have been encountering in some of my endeavors. And in a way, these disappointments have made me so angry at God that I have been praying ceaselessly and questioning Him about the situation of things.

These past few days, I have faced confusion and the feeling of being incapable. I have been mad at myself for probably not doing things right and for getting the wrong outcomes as a result of this. I felt I have been toiling too hard with nothing tangible to show for it.

This had been on for quite a while until today when as it reached the climax, the Holy Spirit inspired me to write a psalm, detailing my frustrations and what I believe God can and WILL do about them. I will share the psalm shortly. But before I do, I would like to reinforce the message in quote above.

The Yoruba people call God two unique names that I am very fond of (Lol…I am fond of all Yoruba names of God actually). They are Atófaratìbíòkè (He Who is as reliable as the ancient hills) and Òrómoníséf’àyàtìí (The One who backs up the one He sends on an errand). These two names, though with slightly different denotative meanings, have the same connotations. They described God as someone who is completely reliable at all times. He is the one person who sets up an examination and provides the answers to the questions to the one who is to be examined.

Now, the lesson I have learnt from this is that God is so faithful that if He gives you a purpose to fulfil, He goes out of His way to help you fulfil that purpose. He will never leave you on your own to face and execute the task alone. He is there, more ancient than the hills of old and definitely more reliable than these ancient witnesses of creation, and He will always be there even when time ends and the world passes away. His position never changes. His nature remains constant. He is faithful even when we are not.

And so, when He sends you on an errand, believe me, no matter what happens, as long as you stay committed to it, He will draw a balance between your dark days and the good ones; He will always come around to justify His name in your life and His purpose for you.

Therefore, I say again “Stand Still. Be patient”.

Keep being faithful.

Grateful and Justified

Toils; Hard labours; Back bent over Hard, stony brown earth. The grinning Sun spills over; Hot sweats drips on creaking muscles; Dark clouds play on the far horizon. Twitching fingers, nagging aches; parched throat, growling stomach. Before my eyes, my seedlings wither, dashing my hopes And all around me is the picture of wasted efforts.

Dark days and good ones, why not be the Balance? And when the heavens cease to act in season, Won’t You call the Nile to flood over? Human wills fail, but Yours never does. So, be the ever standing Hope That anchors my weary soul. And let the harvest Leave my spirit Grateful and Justified.
